  • Watching Your Step: Continued Growth, Reduced Environmental and Social Harm - Minimizing negative environmental impact due to mining operations, as well as properly managing the relationship these operations have with the communities in which they take root, are of continual and paramount importance. Adherence to industry health standards, and safety laws and regulations will enable companies to pursue project success without disruption of or permanent damage to surrounding areas.

However, issues of water shortage and contamination can be avoided if the necessary steps are taken. This session will discuss strategies for fully utilizing water resources.
  • Operations Best Practices for Worker Safety - Mining has its necessary risks, but low accident rates and consistent occupational safety are not out of reach. This session will outline effective strategies and best practices for keeping workers safe.
  • Keeping Costs Low and Value High for Stakeholders - Creating and sustaining value for stakeholders is crucial to a successful project. This session will discuss how to set and achieve goals that produce benefits for investors and local communities.
  • Resource Nationalism - Resource nationalization affects mining companies across the African continent. As African governments increase royalties and seek to make ownership stakes more lucrative, foreign mining companies must stay on their toes to remain competitive.
